The operational challenge

Attendance alone cannot decide whether someone is ready.

A student may attend regularly yet need more time with a technique. Another may meet practical requirements but lack the documented evidence needed for a grading discussion.

Klunivo brings those signals together. The progression module supports configurable levels and requirements, with instructor judgement remaining central to recommendations and advancement.

Progress and grading readiness: how it works

Explore the module’s scope, operating rules and practical examples for your club.

01

Start from a template and keep your own teaching method

Klunivo currently provides 13 progression starting points: general three-level and five-stage models, a blank grading system, a skills path, a fully custom model, karate Kyu/Dan, judo Kyu/Dan, taekwondo Geup/Poom/Dan, adult BJJ, children’s BJJ, traditional Ju-Jitsu, sport Ju-Jitsu and aikido Kyu/Dan.

The selected template is copied into the club and can be edited. Levels, names, colours, requirements and intended participants can reflect your own method. Swimming schools and gymnastics programmes can create custom skill structures; there is currently no dedicated swimming template.

02

Organise readiness without automating coaching judgement

Depending on configuration, readiness can use attendance counts, time at the current level, a requirements checklist, age, a coach recommendation and administrator approval. A coach can recommend a participant, mark them not ready or defer the decision.

Reaching an attendance threshold does not have to award the next level. Technical assessment and the school’s criteria remain relevant. Participant-facing context can include the current level, goals, achievements and history. Goals support current and target values, alongside badges and achievement history.

03

Distinguish grading readiness from exam administration

The current scope supports progression requirements and readiness for assessment. It is not a complete examination workflow with a separate exam event, candidate roster, exam fee, result and automatic promotion after passing. Discuss those requirements separately if they are essential to the way your school organises grading.
